Unlike the heavy-duty DIN 20400 series, the DIN 405 standard is widely used in the food, beverage, and fire protection industries for couplings and valves where frequent assembly/disassembly and easy cleaning are required.
These carbide threading inserts feature a “Full Profile” geometry that cuts the full radius of the thread groove and tops the crest (R0.22104P) in a single pass. This ensures a smooth, rounded “Knuckle” thread form that prevents dirt accumulation and resists galling.

Machining Guidelines
- Standard Identification: Verify you are cutting DIN 405 (Knuckle Thread) and not DIN 20400 (Metric Round), as the profiles differ.
- Tool Holder: Use standard laydown threading inserts holders. Ensure the shim (anvil) provides adequate clearance for the 30° profile, especially on steep helix angles.

Depth of Cut: RD threads displace significant material. Ensure your threading inserts for lathe setup is rigid, and use multiple passes to achieve the full radius depth without chatter.
