What Is an APKT Milling Insert?

APKT is a positive parallelogram-shaped indexable milling insert family used in compatible shoulder, face, side, slot and pocket milling cutter systems.

The four-letter family code identifies the basic shape, relief angle, tolerance class and hole/chip-form configuration. The following size numbers, corner-radius digits and suffixes identify the complete product. Do not order from the word “APKT” alone.

APKT and APMT may look similar, but K and M indicate different tolerance classes. Cutter-pocket fit, dimensions, hole diameter, thickness and the complete designation must be checked.

How to Use the Specification Tables

Start with the exact cutter pocket and existing insert code. Then confirm all five dimensions, the complete suffix, corner radius and the grades shown for that exact model.

Grade availability is model-specific. Do not assume that every carbide grade is available for every APKT designation.

Compatibility Review

Match APKT Inserts to Your Cutter Body

The available cutter-body data does not support a verified model-by-model APKT compatibility table. Use the process below rather than assigning APKT inserts to an unverified TAP, BAP, RAP or APE cutter.

1

Record the Complete Code

Send the full APKT designation, including all radius digits and suffixes.

2

Send Cutter Information

Provide the complete cutter-body model, pocket photo, screw information or an existing insert sample.

3

Verify Fit and Application

Confirm L, W, T, D, RE, pocket seating, material, operation and required quantity.

APKT and APMT Inserts Are Not Automatically Interchangeable

The two families can share similar nominal size codes, but the tolerance class, exact dimensions, hole, edge preparation and cutter-pocket seating may differ.

APKT

K-Class Insert Family

  • Confirm the complete APKT designation.
  • Use the model-specific dimensions and grade availability on this page.
  • Do not substitute only because the size code looks similar.
APMT

M-Class Insert Family

  • Uses its own model, chipbreaker and cutter-body structure.
  • APMT1135 and APMT1604 are covered on the dedicated collection page.
  • Verify the cutter pocket before any replacement.
