C-Type CBN Inserts
80° rhombic PCBN turning inserts for hard turning and cast-iron machining. Compare CNGA, CNGM, CCGW, CPGW, CCGT and CPGT families by negative or positive geometry, tip structure and catalog dimensions.
Choose a C-Type PCBN Insert Family
The catalog includes negative and positive 80° rhombic bodies with standard tips, multiple tips, chipbreaker geometry and entire-edge PCBN options.
CNGA / CNMA
Core negative C-type family with 1N and 2N PCBN tip configurations.
CNGM / CNMM
Negative C-type chipbreaker family for applications requiring chip-control geometry.
CCGW / CCMW
Positive C-type family available with 1N, 2N and entire-edge configurations.
CPGW / CPMW
Positive C-type family with standard 1N and entire-edge PCBN options.
CCGT / CCMT
Positive C-type family in 09T3 and 1204 sizes with 1N tip configuration.
CPGT / CPMT
Positive C-type alternative for 09T3 and 1204 insert sizes.
Select the C-Type Geometry by Setup
Start with the holder and component access. Negative families provide a robust C-type body for stable turning, while positive families are useful where lower cutting force or internal access is important.
Negative C-Type
CNGA / CNMA and CNGM / CNMM use a negative 80° rhombic body.
- Stable general hard turning and facing
- 1N and 2N CNGA / CNMA options
- CNGM / CNMM chipbreaker family
- 1204 and 1606 sizes form the main catalog range
Positive C-Type
CCGW / CCMW, CPGW / CPMW, CCGT / CCMT and CPGT / CPMT use positive C-type bodies.
- Useful where lower cutting force or internal turning access matters
- 1N and selected 2N options
- Entire-edge versions in CCGW-E / CCMW-E and CPGW-E / CPMW-E
- Compact 0602, 09T3 and 1204 sizes

The table reproduces the C-type dimensional symbols from the product catalog. Grade availability is not shown in this matrix because it varies by exact size and tip structure.
Choose the PCBN Tip Configuration
Tip structure affects usable cutting positions and PCBN edge length. Select it together with holder access, engagement and the actual machining condition.
1-Tip
Single localized PCBN cutting tip across negative and positive C-type families.
2-Tip
Two usable tips in selected CNGA / CNMA and CCGW / CCMW configurations.
Chipbreaker
CNGM / CNMM adds chipbreaker geometry to the negative C-type platform.
Entire Edge
CCGW-E / CCMW-E and CPGW-E / CPMW-E provide extended PCBN edge engagement.
Match the Grade to the Workpiece and Cut
C-type inserts are available across multiple PCBN grade directions. Select the grade after the insert family, workpiece material and cutting continuity are known.
OBN45
Wear-focused grade direction for continuous to moderately interrupted hard turning and fine finishing.
O2C50
Abrasion-resistant direction for continuous to lightly interrupted hard machining.
OBW85
High-CBN direction for abrasive workpieces, selected cast-iron applications and demanding interruption.
Confirm by Code
Exact grade availability changes by size and PCBN structure. Confirm the final grade with the selected insert code.
Where C-Type PCBN Inserts Fit
The same C-type body can use different PCBN grades and edge structures depending on the workpiece and interruption level.
Hard Turning
Use hardness and cutting continuity to select the grade and edge condition for hardened-steel finishing and interrupted cuts.
CBN Inserts for Hard Turning →Cast Iron Machining
Match grade and geometry to grey, hard or chilled cast iron, abrasive wear, boring and interrupted surfaces.
CBN Inserts for Cast Iron →CBN Tipped Insert Structures
