End Mill Speed and Feed Calculator
Calculate end mill RPM, table feed, machining time, and metal removal rate for CNC slotting and end milling.
Online Calculator
Results use the inputs above; example values are illustrative and are not tool-specific speed/feed recommendations.
Formulas and Calculation Method
n = 1000 vc / (π D); vf = n × z × fz; Q = ap × ae × vf / 1000; t = L / vf.
For solid carbide end mills, the selected cutting speed determines RPM and the feed per tooth plus number of effective flutes determines table feed. Axial and radial engagement are used to estimate volumetric removal, while path length divided by table feed gives an ideal linear-cut time. This end-milling page is distinct from the existing ONMY face-milling formulas page.
Important Assumptions and Limitations
Does not automatically compensate for chip thinning, cutter engagement in corners, feed acceleration, spindle limits or coating/material specifications. Actual feeds must follow the selected tool family and machine limits.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is feed per tooth?
Distance advanced per effective cutting edge per tool revolution.
Why is the actual cutting time longer?
Positioning, acceleration, retract and tool changes are not included in the linear-path estimate.
