spade drills

Spade drills feature a flat cutting insert, usually with replaceable or indexable carbide, cobalt and high-speed steel (HSS) inserts, mounted on a tool holder. They are a type of modular drilling tool for metal drilling work. Spade drills are used on CNC machines, lathes or milling machines to drill large holes (typically 13 to 65 mm in diameter) in metals such as steel, aluminum or cast iron. Spade drills are cost-effective due to the replaceable inserts, have efficient chip evacuation through internal coolant channels, and are suitable for high-speed deep hole drilling with tight tolerance requirements (±0.1mm). They perform best under full contact conditions, but may encounter difficulties when pre-drilling.
